Western Roadrunner - 7 Days
Beep Beep! Hop aboard this active adventure that combines the coastal and desert highlights of California with the Grand Canyon! This alternative bus tour includes spectacular National Parks like the Grand Canyon, Joshua Tree, and Death Valley. This exciting week-long holiday ends with a scenic drive up the gorgeous California Coast!
After an early morning departure from San Francisco on our backpacker bus, we'll stop for the day at Pinnacles National Monument. Discover this little-known gem by hiking its trails, exploring its caves, and keeping an eye out for the rare California Condor. Our first overnight drive leads to a morning arrival in Joshua Tree National Park.
Trek this otherworldly landscape and test your rock-hopping skills before settling into our first camp-out under the stars. Enjoy a relaxed morning, then spend more time exploring the park. We travel north across the Mojave Desert later that day to watch a very different kind of wildlife with a night out in glitzy Las Vegas!
Our active tour continues with a sunrise arrival at the powerful and inspiring Grand Canyon National Park. The Grand Canyon will overwhelm your senses through its immense size: 277 river miles (446 km) long, up to 18 miles (29 km) wide, and a mile (1.6 km) deep! We'll have a full day to explore this wonder of world. Hike straight down into the canyon or enjoy the solitude along the rim.
Our next destination is Death Valley National Park. Check out the view at Zabriskie Point, then explore the colorful badlands of rain-sculpted mudstone. Next we'll visit the salt flats of Badwater, which at 282 feet (86 m) below sea level is the lowest point in the western hemisphere. Another camp night gives us more time to explore this park — scale gigantic sand dunes and explore the depths of marble-walled Mosaic Canyon.
A scenic drive up California's famous Coast Highway through Big Sur completes this adventure bus tour. We arrive in San Francisco in the evening.
