Heart of Alaska
Heart of Alaska - 7 Days
This Green Tortoise Alaska backpacker bus tour is a nature lover's dream! Join us in this majestic world for a wilderness adventure of snow-capped mountains and crystal-clear seas. This camping trek will bring you up close to Alaska's abundant and untouched wildlife!
Explore a world of snow-capped mountains, crystal clear seas, and abundant wildlife on this amazing adventure to one of the last true wilderness areas on the continent. Embarking from Anchorage, we make tracks for Matanuska Glacier, a 24-mile long blue-ice behemoth, and source of the Matanuska River. A scenic drive takes us through towering Keystone Canyon and past the terminus of the Alaska Pipeline.
From Valdez, take an optional cruise or kayaking trip of the Prince William Sound among icebergs, orcas, and sea lions. During our journey along the scenic Denali Highway, watch for spectacular views of the Alaska Range across the Nenana River Valley.
You'll have plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife on the tundra and taiga of Denali National Park, the crown jewel of Alaska's preservation parks. Encompassing six million acres, Denali is home to caribou, moose, wolves, foxes, bald eagles, and bears, as well as wildflowers, spruce groves, and possible views of the three-mile high peak of Mt. McKinley. Options here include backpacking into the trailless backcountry, taking ranger-led discovery hikes, or booking a Nenana River rafting trip or a flightseeing excursion. As we roll into Anchorage for an early morning arrival, we return to civilization and bid a found farewell to our new friends.
Flexible Itinerary means that we may alter an itinerary depending on weather, local events, etc. Although we make every attempt to run our trips as advertised, please be aware that the itinerary may change to give you the best trip possible.
