The people who attend Burning Man are no mere "attendees," but rather active participants in every sense of the word: they create the city, the interaction, the art, the performance and ultimately the "experience." Participation is at the very core of Burning Man, and there are many ways to participate. - Excerpted from the Burning Man website.

Express yourself through your playa dwelling. Your tent is your home on the playa -- why not make it an extension of yourself in some way? Fabric paints, markers, banners and flags of your country of origin (securely fastened, please) are a few ways to liven up your fabric castle. What do you want your tent to evolve into? A plant? A body part? An animal? Have fun with your transformation, but remember not to use anything that can come off and become litter.

Need to release your inner belly dancer? Have a secret longing to wear lingerie in the daylight hours? Black vinyl your thing? Bring it, baby! The playa is a perfect place to shed the t-shirt and shorts look and dress in something you've always wanted to wear. What happens on the playa stays on the playa so let your fashion party fly in the face of conventional dress codes. Bring it, wear it, rejoice in the freedom of becoming your fantasy figure.

Why wait until you arrive to plan your adventures? Here are a few events that you can sign on for right now:

Take your life-changing Burning Man story to South Africa... Wait, what?

Metamorphosis is a temple of transformation being built for the AfrikaBurn 2015 event in South Africa. It is, however, much more than just an art project — it is a social project for change with a vision to facilitate mass metamorphosis at the Burn; within ourselves and within our home communities.

The temple will be built for and burned at AfrikaBurn, but the journey of Metamorphosis will live on through all those involved in making the art piece a reality and all those that reveled in it. Personal journeys of transformation will be shared with others, helping to teach and inspire through our website.

The Metamorphosis Projects Needs Some Helping Hands!

Alex Thevenot of the Metamorphosis Project are presenting an updated version of this crowd-pleasing, mind-boggling piece at two forthcoming events. They will be at OneSpark in Jacksonville, Florida from April 7-12, 2015, and at the Maker Faire Bay Area May 16-17, 2015. They are looking for two volunteers to help at those events. It will be fun! People love this project and the Metamorphosis team is a friendly and fun team to work with. Lend a hand!

Be part of the Tradition

The Lamplighters begin EVERY EVENING of the event in their center camp workspace at around 5pm. The ceremony begins around 6, and soon the work is done. No experience is required. They welcome virgin and seasoned burners alike. One thing is certain though. They can't do it without YOU.

If you'd like to be a Lamplighter, please take the time to fill out the Volunteer Questionnaire and be sure to mark 'Lamplighters' as the group with which you want to volunteer.

Strut your stuff at Center Camp Cafe!

The Café is seeking acts that can contribute to the Café ambiance with performances from opening Monday and throughout the event until Labor Day. Performers interested in performing in the Café should arrange for a pre-scheduled performance time during the event. You can get started by emailing some basic information to the Café Performance booking volunteers:

  • Your name
  • The name of your Act
  • Featured instruments and musical style
  • Brief sound requirements
  • Links to any online samples or information, excerpt from one of your poems, sketches, or plays, or a description of the type of performance you're planning.

We have three wonderful volunteers to help get your performance booked:

For musical performances: cafe-music(at)burningman(dot)com
For other all other types of performances: cafe-performers(at)burningman(dot)com
