California Cruiser - 11 Days

Marvel at the beauty of Yosemite, America's first National Park! Then explore the rugged California shoreline as we wind our way down the scenic Pacific Coast Highway, with stops in Santa Cruz, Monterey Bay, Big Sur, and Los Angeles.

Following hostel pickups in Los Angeles, we'll head for San Francisco. Spend a day getting to know the City by the Bay, and wake up the next morning in Yosemite National Park. Hit the trail early for some spectacular hiking, rent a cruiser bike or a river raft, or explore the valley floor via the free Yosemite shuttle.

Admire the beauty of Bridalveil and Yosemite Falls, spot rock climbers on El Capitan, or hike up the Mist Trail to Vernal and Nevada Falls. Camp in the high desert terrain of the Eastern Sierras, float with ease in the salty, alkaline waters of Mono Lake, and watch for birds while exploring the fragile tufa spires.

Enjoy another refreshing dip at June Lake.  Embark on a scenic drive over the 9,945 ft Tioga pass to Tuolumne Meadows, the largest sub-alpine meadow in the Sierras. Scale glacier-covered Lembert dome, or swim in the Tuolumne River, and bring your camera to capture a stunning array of summer wildflowers.

Walk through an ancient grove of Giant Sequoias, the largest living things on earth, before returning to San Francisco for a fun-filled weekend. You'll have three full days to explore the city and enjoy the nightlife, either on your own or with your new friends.

Ask our friendly hostel and travel office staff for tips on walking tours, museums, bike rentals, parks and beaches, day trips to Muir Woods and Wine Country, funky shopping streets, bars, clubs, and music venues.

On Monday morning, the Green Tortoise crawls south down the legendary Pacific Coast Highway. Hit the beach in Santa Cruz while surfers challenge the waves in Steamer Lane, or check out the Surfing Museum housed in the Mark Abbott Memorial lighthouse.

In Monterey, stroll along John Steinbeck's beloved Cannery Row, spend some time at Fisherman's Wharf, or pay a visit to the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium. Afterwards, weâll head for our campsite under the Coastal Redwoods of Big Sur.

At San Simeon State Park, take an optional tour of Hearst Castle, hike through the surrounding wetlands, look for elephant seals, or just relax on the beach. Spot cliffside mansions in Malibu before we head back to Los Angeles; we'll drop you off in Hollywood or Santa Monica.

I'm ready to make a reservation!
