Mike
System Administrator and All-Around Main Dude Of Technology
Mike
Once upon a time, you dressed so fine, threw the bums a dime, in your prime... didn't you?

After escaping from New York in Summer of '93 and spending a few months driving around the country, I started working for Green Tortoise in 1994, first as bookkeeper then all-around computer guy for the Seattle hostel, then as database developer, webmaster, and eventually system administrator for the San Francisco hostel and Adventure Travel Office.

I am one of the few people lucky enough to honestly say I love my job. I totally dig what the Tortoise is doing, love helping in something that ends with people having a good time, love seeing the websites people put together about their trips. Plus, I especially love getting paid to do my hobby... ;-) My friends think I'm a hippy and my grandparents think I'm a professional — it's the best of both worlds. (Grandpa, if you're reading this — that picture at left is not me. I don't know who put it there.) The diehard New York cynic in me still can't believe I lucked into a job this good. Green Tortoise doesn't pay me to say things like that — once you've met the people and done the trips, it's hard not to.

When I'm not here working on the office computer system I do independent Filemaker Pro consulting (plug, plug) and spend most of my free time either out enjoying the funky San Francisco art and nightlife scene or sitting home beating on my guitar or old Wurlitzer organ.

Turn-ons are... oh, wait, I'm sorry, that's for something else.
