Once upon a time, with noise pop starting up, and all sorts of action going on in the bay area this should be a great time to catch a show. Here are some suggestions:
2/25 Bottom of the Hill- Kings & Queens w/ True Window, Lemurians, and Sleepy Sun, I am coming in early tonight just so my co-worker can see the Lemurians, so I think this should be good, she has good taste in music. It's kind of an experimental transcendence theme, a little shoe gazey garage gets thrown in as well.
2/25 Café Du Nord- Mountain Goats, and Papercuts, Folk rock to a nice extreme paired with a nice ethereal almost kind of new agey indie pop that I kind of dig.
2/25 Great American Music Hall- Stepen Malkmus, Kelly Stoltz, Peggy Honeywell, and Goh Nakamura, indie, folk, even some progressive rock slightly reminiscent of Mudhoney.
2/25 The Independent- French Kicks, The Broken West, Here Here, and The Dont’s, this show seems to be half dreamy melodic indie, half extreme indie pop.
2/25 Rickshaw Stop- Deerhunter, and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, indie and pop yet again, maybe this should be a given by now but I doubt that will change what I write.
2/25 Slim’s- Matt Costa, An Horse, and Robert Francis, another all out pop indie cornucopia.
2/26 Bottom of the Hill- Built for the Sea, Crime in Choir, and From Monument to Masses, Indie rock with a little loose experimentation, I liked some better than others but can't say anything really stood out, check them out yourself.
2/26 Rickshaw Stop- Goblin Cock, Warship, Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band, and KWC, this should be awesome on the metal side of noise pop. A definite worthwhile jaunt for the heavier indie fan.
2/27 Bottom of the Hill- Dear and the Headlights, Kinch, Big Light, A B & the Sea, Indie pop extravaganza. . . end of story.
2/28 Bottom of the Hill- 1PM: The Matches, Dizzy Balloon, Ex-Boyfriends, um pop alt indie or just tired suburbanite tripe? 9PM: Sholi, the Dead Trees, Everest, and Jake Mann, a more innovative and interesting take on indie rock and experimentation all around, some folk rock and a dash of Americana thrown in here and there.
3/1 Bottom of the Hill- No Age, White Circle Crime Club, Infinite Body, and Veil Veil Vanish, this show is kind of a cluster-you-know-what, kind of show. We have some good experimantal bands, really out there in the noise arena. Then there are a few power pop punk weirdos so it's your call there.
So there are a few starters for all of you. I will post more shows tomorrow as it is a daunting task to get them all.
