Music, cocktails, seahorses, space travel, and a general broadening of the mind.
Every
Thursday night, the Academy opens its doors from 6-10 pm for NightLife,
a chance for adults to explore the museum in a whole new light.
The Academy is thrilled to host this year's Bay Area installment of Yuri's Night,
a party celebrating both the historic first flight of cosmonaut Yuri
Gagarin on April 12, 1961, as well as the launch of the first space
shuttle (STS-1) exactly 20 years later. Yuri's Night is a truly
international undertaking, with more than 139 parties in 38 countries
around the world over the course of 9 days.
Expect a great party — DJs Nalepa, Tinker, Random Rob, Dr. Toast, and others will be spinning in their own experimental styles.
We're
also excited to have a veritable cornucopia of space-themed activities
from both NASA and the Academy, including, but not limited to:
---A spectacular 3D tour of both the Moon and Mars in our Forum Theatre
---Lectures by top NASA personnel on man's place in the Universe
---A customized Tour of the Universe planetarium show from the Academy's Ryan Wyatt
---Interactive exhibits about NASA programs like SOFIA, LCROSS, NLSI, Kepler, NASA Robotics, and GigaPan.
---Stargazing with telescopes and Academy experts on the Living Roof (weather permitting)
Seating for many of these events is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.
