Music soothes the troubled soul, or so it’s been said. I have been noticing an influx of better bands than usual playing around the bay so I thought, “Hey get off your bum and write about what’s going on before it’s all past. So here goes my rather biased and lengthy reviews/showdates.” So here goes another fun jaunt.
10/16 @ Elbo Room – The Intelligence, I would say these guys are innovative, they have elements of pop but fit in a good bit of healthy discord to make for a great sound.
10/17 @ Fillmore – The Jesus Lizard, ok, if you have never heard the jesus lizard you should go to this show, and if you have heard of the jesus lizard you should make the people in your life that haven’t heard them go.
10/17 @ the Great American Music Hall – Why?, I thought these fools would suck major @$$ but it turns out they are pretty good. I would say they sound kind of like electronica pop, but better.
10/ 18 @ the Great American Music Hall – La Roux, contemporary pop complete with a bouffant haircut to make just about anyone jealous this band will probably be overplayed in our ballroom sometime in the near future. If you like Madonna and Michael Jackson as staples of music you might want to check this out, think I might get drunk instead myself.
10/19 @ Great American Music Hall – Jay Reatard, so if you like crappy sub par pop punk then this is your show, Andrew tells me I’m just being a jerk about it, maybe I am missing something spectacular by never having been to a live show, I just have high standards for my punk, and my music in general and it seems to me these guys need to do less jerking around and focus on making something good.
10/20 @ Hemlock – Nodzzz, if you are like me in the belief that punk is a fickle mistress as I expressed above in Jay Reatard I would encourage you to head to this show instead.
10/22 @ Fox Theater in Oakland – Echo & the Bunnymen, 80’s classic bands seem to be all the rage over this weekend, so if you love the 80’s because it reminds you of days gone by or you think Donnie Darko was a great flick with a killer soundtrack then you should check out this show.
10/22-23 @ Warfield theatre – Pet Shop Boys, more 80’s pop full of your favorite tunes. I will admit I actually like these guys, just too weird to not enjoy in my opinion.
Well those are the highlights for now, I encourage guests to look through the Guardian or the SF Weekly which are both free and can be found near the front desk or around the city. Until next time have a great weekend and think happy thoughts.
