2/5 Rickshaw Stop- Heavenly States w/ Birds and Batteries, Decent indie
rock. I like the opener better than the headliner myself, but all in
all not to bad all around.
2/5 Grand Ballroom- Scott Wieland,
um I guess I would say Indie, electronic, pop would maybe fit. I
don't identify with it but can't be all bad I guess.

Independent- Fiction Family, Indie music brought to you by a member of
Switchfoot and another from Nickel Creek. Better than most I have been
writing about in my opinion, kind of a I need a girlfriend crooning
going on. Should be a fun show.
2/5 Fillmore- Eagles of Death
Metal, Indie pop at it's best. I am still not a big fan but I like
these guys, beyond just their silly death metal reference. The songs
are catchy and fun. Will be a nice show.
2/6 Thee Parkside-
Giant Squid CD release party, I cleared it just last night when I came
into work, I will be going to this and rocking out to an extreme. I
love this band, they play a blend of doom, harmony and melody play, and
a general movement of music that is a journey in and of itself. Should
be a great show and a lot of fun.
2/6 Fox Theater- Social
Distortion, rockabilly, punk, whatever you want to call them, these
guys have been plugging out some good music for a while. I don't feel
they are rock's saviours like some, but I definitly don't think they
are horrible either. Should be a great show and if I remember
correctly one of if not the first show at the Oakland Fox Theater.

Fox Theater- Michael Franti and Spearhead, Funk blended with reggae
and rock. They have done a great job making a good sound and play it
very well. Should be a good time.
2/9 Independent- The Bird and
the Bee, They claim to be Alt/pop. I would say that puts them almost
in the ever annoyingly expansive indie rock heading, but the female
vocals and ethereal music to go with it makes them stand out pretty
good. For sure a band to watch.
I would also like to take this time to recommend some record shops in
San Francisco, I figure if you are reading this so far you may be
interested in where they are.
1. Aquarius Records, specializing
in hard to find music from around the globe. Nice for everything from
metal to ambient electronic folk(I may have just made that genre up but
I am sure they have it) If you like "weird" music that is experimental
and innovative this place is for you.

Amoeba Records, Wide selection of all genres of music, good for the all
around music lover as well as bargain hunters as they usually have a
good deal of used cds that play great and cost less.
Located: 1855 Haight St, San Francisco, CA 94117 (Also gives you a reason to walk down Haight St.)
3. Rasputin's, A lot the same as Amoeba in selection, but an even bigger influx of used cd's for the thrifty shopper.
Located: 69 Powell St, San Francisco CA 94102 (cool building and the closest to the Hostel)

Thrillhouse Records, OK this place is for the punks out there, it is
all a bunch of old and new vinyl records, all punk with a few metal,
mostly thrash gems, records all needing a good home. They are well
priced and very well kept. The store is enough to make any oldschool
punk weak in the knees. I love this little hole in the wall store.
